Sometimes how it starts, isn’t how it ends.

So generally, Friday is my day off. But this week because of things happening at the church, and in order to spend some time with a good friend, I took Thursday off.

The day started, inauspiciously, with a dead car battery. UGH! I am SUCH a girl when it comes to things like this. I literally sat in the car for a good 5 minutes panicking. I had no idea what to do or how to deal with this. Eventually, the panic subsided and it became clear I needed to call for help. That was quite the process itself (called my secretary for advice, then the church custodian to see if he could give me a boost, then Honda Roadside when it became clear that I wouldn’t be able to get a traditional boost due to the fact that the car was inside my (super-tiny) garage).

After about a half an hour and a $45 charge to my Visa, my car was back in working order. I headed off to a day of shopping and spending time with friends. And it was fabulous.

Lots of laughter. Some great bargains. Time with two of the best girls I know…and one of the sweetest little men I have the pleasure of knowing.

Looking back at the day, I have to admit – I am so glad that sometimes how a day starts, isn’t how it ends. I am thankful that there are twists and turns in life, and that I cannot imagine what the day will hold.

I am thankful that all of this is held in the palm of a Loving Father.

And I am thankful that if I publish this post now, I will still meet my deadline for posting a blog entry every day in November!

Try something new!

So in my quest to blog every day during November, I thought it would be wise to have more than one way to write an entry. Enter the wordpress iPhone app.

I downloaded this app quite a while ago, but have never used it until today.

It has me thinking a out the difference between what I hope to do and what I actually do. When I downloaded the app, I hoped to use it to help me immediately and regularly update my blog. Clearly, that didn’t happen. Instead, it languished on my phone’s home screen until I made a commitment to blog regularly.

There is probably a useful principle in that… That our hopes/ideas/dreams do not become a reality until we make a solid commitment to them.

In any case, I am glad to try this out. It is something new for me. And I believe that new experiences help us to live abundantly. So what about you? Is there something new that you need to try out? Some idea that you need to to commit to in order for it to become a reality?

How your friends make you better…

I noticed today that my friend Becky posted that this month is national blogging month. You are supposed to blog each day during the month.

It is also National Novel Writing Month….but that is totally beyond me. At least, it is right now – I have enough writing projects between church stuff and this little blog to keep me busy.

I appreciated Becky‘s post because it has reminded me of how much I want to blog, of how I have missed posting here. Sometimes, God has a way of bringing people into your life who make you step up to the plate, who make you more of the person God created you to be. I think Becky did that for me today, even in a small or indirect way.

So this is it. I will try, to the best of my ability to blog each day for the next month. Let’s see where this takes us!

And make sure you check out Becky’s blog, too, because she will be doing the same.

Domain!

One of the things I wasn’t pleased with at my previous blog was that it was hard to find. The domain name wasn’t great. I tried to figure out how to change it, but that didn’t come so easy. Thankfully, wordpress.com makes it easy to switch a domain name. So now my blog is officially at rebekahmitchell.ca. Easy to find. I hope you will drop by and read up on what is up with me.

Blessings,

Rebekah’s World: Revamped!

I took a break from blogging this summer. Not because I didn’t have things to write about and news to share, but because I wasn’t entirely pleased with the format of my previous blog. I was having some trouble posting it to Facebook, and finding it awkward to share. I began researching other blog tools on the web, but didn’t quite figure out how to use them. I was frustrated and decided to take a break for a season and come back to it in the fall.

So here I am, back again. So much has happened in the past few months. The church where I serve as an Associate Minister is in a time of transition as we search for a new Lead Minister. I have lost 36 pounds to date on Weight Watchers. I have adopted a new puppy.

Life is beautiful.

It’s my intention to be back at blogging regularly now. I hope you’ll join me on the journey and enjoy reading about the world, through my eyes.

Blessings,
R.
